How Sue Works:
Sue believes that every family dispute is distinct, and works to resolve conflicts in a manner that works for each individual family. She pays particular attention to the needs of children throughout the process, and recognizes the complex dynamics of family transition. Sue takes a comprehensive and patient approach to each family’s process, and works closely with her clients to help them evaluate options and make sound decisions in what are often heated circumstances.
Susan Silber has practiced family law in Washington, D.C. and Maryland since 1981. She also has extensive experience in employment and civil rights law. Sue has also represented Takoma Park, MD as its City Attorney for over thirty years.
Sue graduated from University of Michigan (1971) and the faculty of law, State University of New York at Buffalo (1976).
Sue has been active in collaborative dispute resolution for many years and is a current member of the Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals, D.C. Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. She is also Vice President of the Divorce Roundtable of Montgomery County.
Sue is an original member of the National Family Law Advisory Council and has advanced the rights of LGBTQ clients for her entire career. She chaired the LGBT Bar Association of Maryland and served on the Board of Equality Maryland. The Rainbow History Project honored her in 2015 as a Trailblazer in LGBT-friendly employment and family law.
In addition to her collaborative practice, Sue is a mediator and negotiator. Sue’s firm also handles litigation.
